Reader | Writer | Editor

Thanks for wanting to learn more about me!

After finding "THE" book when I was a second grader, I became an avid reader. I am one of few people who, as a child, got into trouble with both my teachers and my parents for reading too much. I only became more passionate from there to the point of graduating with a BA in English as an adult. Strangely enough, until then, I disliked reading and did everything I could to avoid it. Now, you're lucky if you can get me to put a book down! Admittedly, one of my favorite things about being an adult is that I can read as much as I want to. (My Kindle is probably one of the best investments I have ever made, given how much use it gets.)

As you can imagine, reading is a passion of mine. However, having written material (whether it be a book, magazine, or blog) free from distracting errors is essential to keeping even the most voracious readers engaged. As I read more and more eBooks, blogs, and anything that has the ability to be published quickly or instantly, I've noticed that copy editing and proofreading seems to have less of a priority. This is unfortunate. While I am sure the writer read everything twice, backwards and forwards, it is extremely difficult to proofread your own work; everybody (even me!) needs to have a second set of eyes on their written work, even if it is your niece who just learned to read. I do advocate hiring a professional, though, as they have the skill and know-how you need. (I admit: I may be biased.)

If you do go the professional route (which I, again, recommend), I bring my education and my experience to service you. I studied English with a concentration in Creative Writing for my Bachelor of Arts. I also have applicable experience. For nearly two years, I was the office manager of eighteen issues for a regionally and internationally recognized boating magazine, which meant that I was the proofreader, the copy editor, and (sometimes) a writer. Working at the magazine taught me how to edit quickly and accurately as turnaround time was short and deadlines were always looming. I also had to deal with editing many styles of writing, from the more professional writing from our advertisers to the casual style of our editorial writers, all while keeping their voices in mind.

Please see below to find out more about me. If you have any questions, need clarification, or just want to say hello, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.
